10 More Photo Books YOU Should Own

The last one of these blogs I wrote has been really popular, so I thought I would provide another list, which I hope you will find just as enjoyable. My collection has grown since I wrote the last one of these, and not inconsiderably! In this, I hope to find a balance between some classics and some more contemporary/recent release that you might want to consider for yourself or as a gift for a photography.

So what’s made this list? Let’s take a look:

The Last Resort - Martin Parr

Product Name

The Last Resort - Martin Parr

View on Amazon

This is one that I got for my birthday this year, and it’s one I had thought about buying before, but seeing as this was close to the date that Parr died, it came very much to the front of my mind when I was spending my birthday money (yes, I am still big kid at heart!).

The Last Resort is a collection of images captured by Parr and published in 1986. The photos were taken in the period of the 80’s running up to its publication and whilst the British Seaside was still in somewhat of a heyday, but one which was beginning to enter a massive decline. The images in here show this decline, they show consumer culture and are, in my opinion a bit of a study on the UK working class.

It’s the last one of these that provides a bit of controversy as some people saw it as a true piece of honest, documentary photography, whilst some thought that Parr was mocking the working class you’ll have to make your own mind up about this one.

The use of direct flash in some the images is reminiscent of the work of Bruce Gilden and the way that colour is used is fantastic.

This is one of the most defining photobooks in UK street/documentary photographer and is absolutely worthy of a place on your bookshelf.

The Perimeter: A Photographic Journey around the Coast of Britain

Product Name

The Perimeter - Quintin Lake

View on Amazon

This is a visually rich exploration of Britain’s coastline, celebrating the variety, drama and character found around the edge of the country. Rather than treating the coast as one single landscape, the book reveals how diverse it really is, moving between rugged cliffs, quiet beaches, fishing communities, harbours, estuaries, islands and weather-beaten edges of land.

For landscape photographers, this book is especially useful because it demonstrates the importance of patience, observation and atmosphere. Coastal photography is not just about dramatic sunsets or postcard views. It is about tide, weather, texture, history and human presence. The images encourage you to look at the coastline as a living, changing subject rather than a fixed scenic backdrop.

What makes the book compelling is its sense of journey. There is a feeling of movement through place, season and mood, which gives the work a strong narrative quality. It is the kind of photography book that encourages slower looking and deeper engagement with familiar landscapes.

For anyone interested in British landscape photography, coastal environments, travel photography or documentary approaches to place, The Perimeter is a thoughtful and inspiring addition to a photo book collection.

National Parks of the United Kingdom: The UK’s Most Inspiring Landscapes

Product Name

National Parks of The United Kingdom

View on Amazon

A celebration of some of Britain’s most important and recognisable natural spaces. Covering the landscapes that define the UK’s national parks, the book is full of mountains, valleys, lakes, moorland, coastlines, woodland and wide open views that show just how varied the British landscape can be.

For photographers, this book is valuable because it highlights the visual identity of different regions. The Lake District, Snowdonia, the Peak District, the Yorkshire Dales, the Cairngorms and other national parks each have their own light, weather, textures and sense of place. Studying a book like this can help photographers think more carefully about location, composition and the relationship between landscape and atmosphere.

It is also a useful reminder that strong landscape photography does not always rely on extreme locations. Many of the UK’s most powerful images come from familiar, accessible places when they are photographed with patience and understanding.

This is a book for anyone who loves the British landscape. Whether used for inspiration, trip planning or simply quiet enjoyment, National Parks of the United Kingdom makes a strong case for photographing closer to home.

Annie Leibotivitz At Work

Product Name

Annie Leibowitz - At Work

View on Amazon

Annie Leibovitz at Work is an essential read for anyone interested in portrait photography, editorial photography or the creative process behind iconic images. Rather than simply presenting a collection of finished photographs, the book gives insight into how Leibovitz works, thinks and approaches her subjects. That makes it especially valuable for photographers who want to understand the decisions behind the image.

Leibovitz is best known for her distinctive portraits of musicians, actors, writers, artists and public figures, but the strength of this book is that it reveals the craft behind the celebrity. It explores ideas around preparation, collaboration, lighting, location, direction and storytelling. Her portraits often feel theatrical, intimate or symbolic, and this book helps explain how those qualities are built.

For photographers, Annie Leibovitz at Work is useful because it shows that portraiture is not only about technical skill. It is also about trust, concept, timing and the ability to create an environment where something meaningful can happen.

This is a brilliant book for anyone who wants to move beyond taking straightforward portraits and start thinking more intentionally about narrative, mood and visual identity. It is inspiring, practical and deeply insightful.

Accidentally Wes Anderson

So these don’t all feel like they are accidental, but this is a great book of images which compiles together a ton of a shots which have the colour and composition and feeling of a Wes Anderson film. If you have seen one of his films, you will know what exactly what I am on about. If you haven’t then go and check out The Grand Budapest Hotel, the collection of shorts The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar and Three More or Asteroid City.

The photos in this book are great. There is a real feeling of deliberacy in all of the photos, which is why I call into question the word “accidentally” in the title of the book,

The Photo Book

This one is an accessible and beautifully curated survey of photography, making it an ideal recommendation for anyone building a serious photo book collection. Published by Phaidon, it brings together hundreds of important images from across the history of the medium, covering documentary photography, portraiture, fashion, fine art, landscape, still life, street photography and experimental work.

What makes the book so useful is its structure. Rather than presenting photography as a dry timeline, it gives each photographer space through a carefully selected image and a short piece of context. This makes it easy to dip in and out of, while still offering a broad understanding of how photography has developed over time.

For beginner and experienced photographers alike, The Photo Book is valuable because it introduces a wide range of visual styles and creative approaches. It encourages you to look beyond your usual influences and consider how different photographers use composition, light, timing, subject matter and concept.

This is not just a book about famous photographs. It is a book about visual language. Whether you are interested in improving your own photography, learning more about photographic history, or simply discovering new photographers, The Photo Book is a brilliant reference to return to again and again.

1000 Photos You Should See Before You Die

Product Name

1001 Photographs You Must See Before You Die

View on Amazon

1000 Photos You Should See Before You Die is an ambitious and wide-ranging photography book that works brilliantly as both inspiration and visual education. Rather than focusing on one photographer, genre or period, it brings together a huge selection of images that show the extraordinary breadth of photography as an art form, historical record and storytelling medium.

The strength of the book is its variety. Across its pages, you are likely to encounter documentary photography, portraiture, fashion, war photography, street photography, landscapes, fine art images, photojournalism and culturally significant moments. This makes it especially useful for photographers who want to broaden their visual references and understand how different types of images create impact.

For beginners, it offers an accessible route into photographic history without feeling overly academic. For more experienced photographers, it provides a reminder that powerful images are not created through one style or formula. They can be quiet, shocking, beautiful, strange, emotional or technically simple.

What makes 1000 Photos You Should See Before You Die worth owning is its ability to spark curiosity. It is the kind of book you can open at any page and find something that challenges your eye, introduces a new photographer, or makes you think differently about what a photograph can do.

David Yarrow Photography: Americas Africa Antarctica Arctic Asia Europe

Product Name

David Yarrow - Americas Africa Antarctica Arctic Asia Europe

View on Amazon

This a powerful large-format collection from one of the world’s most recognisable contemporary fine art photographers. Spanning six continents, the book brings together Yarrow’s dramatic black-and-white images of wildlife, landscapes, people and remote environments, all presented with his trademark cinematic intensity.

What makes this book especially compelling is its sense of scale and proximity. Yarrow is known for getting physically close to his subjects, particularly in his wildlife work, and that closeness gives many of the images a raw, confrontational energy. Lions, elephants, wolves and polar bears are not simply documented; they are presented with presence, atmosphere and emotional weight.

For landscape photographers, the book is valuable because it shows how location, light, subject and storytelling can combine to create images that feel far more than descriptive. Yarrow’s compositions often use negative space, texture, contrast and careful positioning to build mood and drama.

This is not a quiet, subtle photography book. It is bold, polished and visually striking. For anyone interested in fine art photography, wildlife, travel, monochrome processing or the commercial presentation of photographic work, it offers plenty to study and revisit. It is the kind of book that feels both inspirational and aspirational.

If you’re after something which is a bit of statement for you coffee and you have large coffee table (this thing is huge!) then this is a great book to fulfil that purpose - it demands to be looked at and the book itself and the images it contains deserve your time and your discussion.

Liam Wong After Dark

Product Name

Liam Wong - After Dark

View on Amazon

This is another one of my favourites. Last time I wrote one of these blogs, I shared TO:KY:OO by the same photographer, and in my opinion, this book is just as good. It’s shot in the same style and with the same feel as the previous book, but at the same time manages to maintain the feeling of being completely original. The paper choice in this book is stunning and suits the photos immaculately. Expect to see the same cyberpunk style of low light photography as you find in TO:KY:OO, the saturated colours and the incredible lighting you found in the TO:KY:OO but with a fresh perspective.

It’s a cinematic journey through cities at night, capturing the strange beauty, solitude and atmosphere of urban spaces after midnight. Known for his highly stylised nocturnal photography, Wong brings together images of neon streets, quiet train stations, taxi drivers, empty buildings and lone figures moving through shadowy cityscapes. The result is a book that feels part street photography, part film still and part visual diary.

What makes After Dark especially compelling is Wong’s background as a video game designer. His images often feel carefully composed and otherworldly, yet they are rooted in real places. Cities such as Hong Kong, Seoul, London and Edinburgh are presented with a moody, cinematic quality that makes the ordinary feel mysterious and heightened.

For photographers, this book is valuable because it shows how colour, artificial light, shadow and timing can completely transform a location. It is particularly inspiring for anyone interested in night photography, urban photography, cinematic editing or creating a strong personal visual style.

After Dark is the kind of book that encourages you to go out when the streets are quieter, look for atmosphere rather than perfection, and see familiar cities in a completely different way.

The Tube Mapper Project: Capturing Moments on the London Underground

Product Name

London Underground Symmetry and Imperfections: The Tube Mapper Project

View on Amazon

This book by Luke Agbaimoni is a distinctive photography book that turns one of London’s most familiar spaces into something quietly beautiful. Built around the London Underground, Overground and DLR network, the project captures the stations, platforms, tunnels, escalators, reflections and architectural details that most commuters pass without noticing.

What makes this book so engaging is its focus on everyday observation. Rather than chasing grand landscapes or dramatic travel scenes, Agbaimoni finds visual interest in routine journeys, using symmetry, light, colour, movement and perspective to reveal the hidden character of the Tube. The result is a book that feels both documentary and artistic, rooted in real places but full of carefully seen moments.

For photographers, it is a valuable reminder that strong images can be made close to home. You do not always need remote locations or perfect conditions; you need curiosity, patience and a willingness to notice what others overlook.

The Tube Mapper Project is a brilliant choice for anyone interested in urban photography, transport, London, architecture or long-term personal projects. It proves that even the most familiar daily environment can become a rich source of creative inspiration.

Last Word

Building a strong photo book collection is one of the best ways to develop your eye, widen your influences and stay creatively inspired. The books in this list all offer something different, from iconic portraits and sweeping landscapes to urban night photography, wildlife, transport, documentary work and visual history. Some are useful for studying technique, while others are simply worth owning because they remind you why photography matters.

Whether you are a beginner looking for inspiration, an experienced photographer wanting to refresh your ideas, or someone who simply enjoys beautifully made photography books, these titles are well worth exploring. They encourage slower looking, deeper thinking and a greater appreciation of how powerful a single image can be. Most importantly, they prove that photography is not one thing. It can be quiet, dramatic, personal, historical, cinematic, documentary, emotional and completely transformative.
